The Oracle SPARC T3-1 processor is information technology’s first densely threaded system-on-a-chip (SoC) that supercharges its capabilities. Powered by the industry’s first 16-core SPARC T3 processor, it produces ground breaking performance and increased energy efficiency to address all demanding data center challenges. It’s the first 128-thread, general purpose server contained in a 2RU enclosure.

With SPARC T3-1’s extremely expandable internal storage and network connectivity, it can be configured with up to 16 disk drives and 6 PCI-E cards.

The densely-threaded processor uses the transistor budget to leverage the multiple hardware poly-threaded processor cores onto a single chip die. Taking the multicore/densely-threaded design up a notch, the SPARC T3-1 processor provides as many as 16 cores per processor, which can each support up to eight threads using two independent pipelines.

The SPARC T3 processor can operate at near-line speed over a 10 Gigabit Ethernet network. This amazing cryptographic throughput performance means that servers with the SPARC T3 processors are the most sought after platform for applications that demand secure network communications.

With the increased transistor budget, a single processor die can host:
• As many as 128 threads for each processor (that’s sixteen cores maintaining eight threads a core)
• Newly designed floating point pipeline per core
• Two on-chip 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces
• Six on-chip cache coherency links and logic
• Two on-chip PCI Express Generation 2 interfaces
• Level 1 and Level 2 caches per chip
• Each core contains cryptographic acceleration for 12 unique ciphers

What’s more, due to the SoC design, the SPARC T3 processor with its built-in 16 newly-designed floating-point units significantly enhances the nature of the CPU.
